land of echoesHave you ever been intrigued by isolated or abandoned places–whether they be lonely plateaus in the middle of the desert or abandoned houses? We can’t help but come across places like that sometimes. we suspect that these places hold mysteries–but we’ll never know, will we? Daniel Hecht seems adept at plucking this ‘sense of intrigue / curiosity’ or ‘wondering instinct’, and incorporate it into his Cree Black mysteries. he gives us heaps of these ‘invisible’ mysteries while standing solidly on the more familiar mystery terrain (murder, missing person, crime investigation). very creepy, really. There’s this boy who might be possessed. While he’s sleeping, his right arm moves by itself, touching things, as if it belongs to someone else.
